The Southwestern Company Testimonials

Emily H., Woodbridge, VA (Alum ’94-’95)

Selling books has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and yet somehow I have the best memories from those two summers. I love meeting the salespeople that come to my door. Send them on!

Roy S., South Bend, IN (Alum ’95-’96)

I learned more about myself and the type of person I wanted to be in the two summers that I had the opportunity to sell then I could in a four year degree. Today I still use the skills I learned.

Trisha K., Silver Spring, MD (Alum ’00-’02)

An amazing 3 years! My Southwestern experience has had a tremendous impact on my professional career.

Shauna V., Sheridan, WY (Alum ’00-’02)

I made a decision to sell books in college and committed myself to putting my head down and working hard until it was over. This job challenges you to get out of your own way! I am so thankful for how far forward the experience moved me in my personal growth!

Harold P., Oklahoma City, OK (Alum ’72-’73)

I worked two summers in 1972 and 1973. I wasn’t one of the record setters, but I did gain invaluable training which has served me well. The training I received is priceless. I will always be grateful. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1973 and spent two years getting some additional training then entered into the field of broadcasting. After 3 years as a producer, engineer, and sports reporter, I moved into sales. For an introvert like me, that was a real step. Because of my Southwestern experience, I knew that if I maintained the right thinking process, I would be all right. Since then, I won numerous sales awards, moved into management as National Sales Manager at both the NBC and ABC affiliates in Oklahoma City. I have also been Director of Sales for a top radio group. I am currently General Sales Manager for two radio stations with Tyler Media here in Oklahoma City. It hasn’t been without its ups and downs, but that’s what the Southwestern experience prepared me for. Life is tough, but you have to find a way.

John K., Monona, WI (Alum ’77-’78)

Had fun selling in Texas and North Carolina. Emotional growth and maturity were achieved over the two summers of selling and prepared me for a lifetime of sales and ultimately owning my own insurance agency business.
